This website has a threefold purpose:

  • to enhance narrative and expository reading instruction in the classroom, and
  • to study the life and works of the classical author, Charles Dickens
  • to connect to state standards

Students will be able to further learn about Victorian England through web sites listed in Dickens Links. Culminating activities and writing ideas have been included from which teachers and students can glean ideas. Some teaching tools have been included in the Shared Lessons links. We encourage all teachers and students to forward developed projects and links unique to this project. We will gladly give you full credit for your submissions.

Our hope for students is that they will become as excited by Dickens, the author, as we are. Our aim for teachers is that this resource will provide effective teaching tools that can be used with students. It also provides teachers and students with a means of online communication through threaded discussions.
